Southwest Bakersfield baby dies from drowning

A 9-month-old baby who was found Saturday evening in a southwest Bakersfield swimming pool died Sunday night at a Madera hospital, the Madera County coroner’s staff reported.  Tessa Coats died at 8:34 p.m. at Children’s Hospital Central California, coroner spokeswoman Erica Stuart said Monday. 

She got into the pool after being inside the home and crawling out a doggie door, police said. 

Bakersfield police said the drowning in a pool on Golden Sunrise Court near Harris and Ashe roads was an accident. 

The baby was found in a pool at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. She was not breathing when she was pulled from the pool. She was being watched by her grandmother, police said.
